In your analysis Lara, you mnieton very clear ego benefits, but jenny’s coments point to potential ego deflators, or anxieties that the person wants to protect himself from. What are they in the case of the Type A gentleman? I am wondering whether one should always analyze behaviors which create pinches in terms of ego highs as well as, anxieties that we relieve by acting the way we act. I find that in my case, one is usually stronger than the other, and that it is easier on my ego to point to the benefits and say oh well and neglect the fear or shame side of things.
