A Colorado river would be better than my local river, the aptly-named Great Ouse. It earned its name because it’s usually fairly slow-moving, and retained it because, courtesy of the thousand or so Embden and Canada geese that live along the embankment, the riverbed is about a yard thick of goosecrap. (I speak from experience, having capsized a kayak in the river in the past.)
It’s warm & clean enough to swim in upstream though.
