A great painting from Douglas Simonson to remind you of the warm weather. If you live somewhere that’s still warm, then use it to fuel other fantasies

There’s something to be said for timing: the Autumn rain (or rather drizzle, since we rarely get real rain in this part of England) started yesterday, and my heating (which is set to turn on if it drops below 18C/64F, so somewhat cooler than most people have their heating) turned itself on last night for the first time since Spring.
Wow. I’m freezing if my house is below 70F.
My mother’s family are Scottish (with English and Welsh on her father’s side) so I would blame my ancestry, however my mum is very sensitive to temperature – she’ll be wearing five layers and complaining of the cold while I’m in a t-shirt and feeling too warm. It’s not an age thing, it’s a her thing. My aunt/her sister is like me: neither of us can sleep if it’s much over 25C/77F, so summer is basically three months of insomnia.
Preferring the cold does have its down-sides: I get uncomfortable if the temperature is over about 30C/85F, especially if it’s also humid, so although I’d love to visit places like Angkor Wat, New Orleans or the Okavango, I doubt I ever will because I wouldn’t cope well with the heat & humidity.
I guess I’m a wuss because I’m only sitting by the pool and not in it. The temp today is only 85F and with the breeze too cool for being in the pool. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer.
